The process of search engine optimisation is proven to be a time consuming and patience requiring task. This is because of the fact that realising your work output will not happen immediately, instead you will only reap the fruits of your SEO labors after a considerable amount of time a month to say the very least. Many search engines are interfacing several safety features that will have to recognise websites that are products of black hat SEO and therefore these websites are supposed to be weeded out. It is because of this weeding process that some websites are actually having trouble in being indexed by the search engine even though certain criteria has been met. For one reason or another there might be causes why a search engine always passes the indexing of your website or of a certain website. We have to remember the fact that a website is going to be evaluated by the main engine in a search engine via the data that was gathered by the search engine agents commonly known as the spiders or bots. These agents crawl the target website and once it gathers enough data it moves on to the next website or if such target website has given insufficient data the spiders will also jump into the next website. The implication of this is that the ranking and indexing of your website is highly dependent on the data being gathered by the site crawlers or spiders. It is thus imperative that SEO consultants and SEO companies know how a spider view a website and because of this need to know how search engine spiders view websites many SEO companies and SEO consultants have developed a tool that will show a user or person how a website is viewed by the website crawler or spider and such tool is aptly named as the spider simulator tool.

The basic function of the spider simulator tool is very simple. The tool only asks for the URL of your target website, after entering the URL the spider simulator tool will then generate information and such information is displayed in a manner on how a spider also views the website. It is actually just an outline of the whole website. The essential information given off by the spider simulator tool is the keywords, page title, description, the body texts, images, forms and the links both inbound and outbound links. The information generated will actually tell or show you if there are parts of the webpage or website that you have not optimised properly. It is because of this Spider simulator tool that many SEO’s can now see the factors affecting their SEO campaign and which part of the website should they improve on.

The news of the death of the most popular pop star icon Michael Jackson had the internet enter a state of slow down. Not because of the reason that the internet users are mourning and thus stopped using the computer but rather the fact that internet usage most specifically the use of the search engine had increased exponentially, mainly because people would like to get information on the pop star’s cause of death and the underlying circumstances. For the search engine giant Google, people who utilised this search engine and searched for Michael Jackson were given an error message instead of a generated search results page. Google initially interpreted this as an attack to the company, most specifically a denial of service attack which was later on retracted by Google executives and explained that what transpired was an overload of searches, most specifically those that were about Michael Jacksons’ death.

To further strengthen this claim of the Google executives they have noted that in around 2:40 P.M. Pacific time the internet users are already experiencing slow down in the use of Google and what was highly noted was that Google News had started to have difficulty in accessing the news related to Michael Jackson’s death but rather internet users saw the display of an error message.

Google was not only the company that experienced the errors brought about the sudden increase in searches, the microblogging site Twitter also experienced the same problem. Twitter crashed because of the fact that it could not take the sheer volume of searches done. Truly, Michael Jackson is a pop star icon that can shake up not only the music world but also the internet world.

In the world of Search engine optimisation there is always that need for every SEO to get ahead of it’s competition. Sometimes because of the tedious task involved in Search engine optimisation many SEO consultants or even SEO companies are being tempted to utilise black hat SEO strategies. The SEO process requires patience because of the fact that there are several factors that actually affects the indexing and ranking of a certain website. Sometimes there are instances where the website is sandboxed and is not ranked nor indexed by the search engine, sand boxing is usually done by Google to weed out new sites from old and mature websites where new websites are always sand boxed until such time that it is ready to be indexed by Google and readiness means that the website should already conform to the criteria set by the search engine company. Sand boxing is just one of the reasons why an SEO company or an SEO consultant would resort to black hat techniques. The temptation to utilise such unethical technique is mainly because of the fact that the website could easily be indexed and ranked by Google or any other search engine but such unethical act doesn’t go unpunished as it has its repercussions when detected, such as the banning of the website for a specific time period which by the time that all black hat techniques employed were already removed and the website is now back into circulation it’s competitors may already have been so far ahead in employing SEO techniques which in turn would give the previously banned website to work double time to at least get to page two of the search engine result page.

The most common SEO black hat technique that is being employed by some SEO practitioners is the method called keyword stuffing. Content is king as SEO’s would say that is why every content of the web page or website black hat techniques practitioners floods their content with the specified keywords. They do this even if the content does not make any sense at all, as long as the keywords are inserted. Fortunately, search engines had already adapted to this old black hat technique by recognising only contents that makes sense. If content does not make sense and it is only embedded with a lot of keywords then it is to be considered as a spam web page by the search engines.

There are other several black hat techniques being employed by some unscrupulous SEO practitioners who wants to get ahead of the SEO game using unethical and unfair methods but rest assured that these so-called black hat techniques are now being prevented by search engines by continuously updating their algorithm to recognise such black hat technique.

With the failure of the negotiations between Microsoft and Yahoo before when the Yahoo CEO was still Jerry Yang had sparked the distaste of the operating system giant from ever entering into agreement with the search engine company. Recently however, there are changes in the way the operating system forerunner is stating their company’s openness to acquire Yahoo! This possible change in the ownership of the search engine Yahoo! will spell a great deal of difference for SEO companies and SEO consultants because it will in turn change the SEO algorithm of the search engine. It is a well known fact that each search engine has it’s own Search engine Algorithm which will determine how it ranks the websites that the search engine indexes. A combination of Microsoft and Yahoo algorithm will dawn a new breed of search engine algorithm and thus a new strategy on internet marketing.

As to date the leading search engine company is Google and is way ahead of the second placer Yahoo and the third placer Microsoft. A combination of the two companies Yahoo and Microsoft however will combine the experience of Yahoo in the field of Search engines and the innovations introduced by Microsoft in its new Search engine Bing.

In an interview with the Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer however denied that Microsoft is indeed interested still in acquiring the search engine Yahoo, rather he exclaimed that Microsoft will always be open for partnership with the search engine Yahoo in any joint venture that they may be willing to enter into with Microsoft.

The process of website design is a three prong process which starts from planning to designing up to the hosting your website. The final process is not at all easy it is in fact as tedious as the first two processes. The internet is full of web host companies that offer their services in different ways. Different, in such a way that there is no standard pricing given to the website designers who would like to avail of a hosting plan. If you search the web there are a lot of hosting companies that offers different types of hosting plans. It is because of this differences in offered hosting plans that a website designer must find a good hosting company to host his website design. Finding a good website company is dependent on several factors and these are the following:

1. Hosting Price – as what was said before a hosting plan will differ from one company to the other and this difference should be taken into consideration by the website designer in purchasing a hosting plan. There are even web host companies that offer huge discounts when you avail of their one-year to three-years hosting plan.

2. Data Traffic – remember the purpose of your website design, if your website design will later be subjected into an extensive SEO and online-marketing strategy then you are expecting a huge traffic, thus you have to check whether the hosting company can provide you with the traffic that your website need. This is to avoid problem later on with regards to reaching your monthly traffic limit.

3. Storage space – your website host must also be able to meet your needs in storage. Take into consideration the features of your website design and then take into account the amount of web or storage space that your web host is offering. Consider your website design if you will require the storage of audio and video files and the maintenance of databases if so you will have to get a larger storage capacity.
These are just some of the basic requirements for your web host that you should consider before purchasing a hosting plan.

The tedious process of finding a website host for your website design does not end with the criteria on Cost, Traffic Limits and Storage Capacity. It goes beyond that. This is because of the fact that there are several factors that are still supposed to be considered especially for starting or even existing enterprises. Problems may come up later on when you choose an unsuitable web hosting plan for your website design. Problems such as inadequate storage for email’s given to employees, absence of desired applications that are recognised by the web host that is supposed to be utilised when updates or upgrading of the website has been decided by the company and lastly there is the problem of losing your website or search engine ranking if and when the search engine bots will crawl your website in times when your whole site is down because of the fact that there is a failure on the host server or the system in the server has crashed. These are problems that should be addressed by the web host company before you can be assured that such web host company is suitable for your needs. Let’s take a look at these factors more in perspective.

1. Email Capability – most web hosts nowadays are actually providing, as included in their package, email hosting. This feature will actually help your company as you can designate email addresses to your employees which they can use for business purposes but of course you also have to know how much of the email service will you be using in order for your to gauge the right hosting plan for you to choose which has email capability, not to mention the fact that each email must also have adequate storage capacity to handle all the business or communication coming in and going out from your company.

2. Application Integration – Web hosts also differ in the applications that they support, some may support hosting CMS’ based website design or the Content Management System based website design and some may not. If you see your company requiring the CMS technology in the future then you will have to choose a web host company that supports such. Other technologies or applications that are specialised are MySQL, PostgreSQL and other databases, PHP, Perl and .NET or other server-side scripting languages.

3. Fail-safe – your web host must also be prepared in events that their system will experience server crashes. Check on what fail-safe measures are integrated into the web hosts’ system before you purchase the web host plan we do not want to lose our precious search engine ranking that was culled from our extensive SEO work so therefore be very specific and scrutinise the fail-safe system of the web host company.

Starting a website or online business is a very daunting task as it entails a lot of patience and some money. THe fact that you will have to start from scratch makes it an even more challenging task, when you start your online business you need someone to design the website for you or you are lucky if you have all the knowledge and skills in website design. After taking on the tedious task of website design you will have to deal with the promotion of your site. Your website will not be able to function or generate income if it is not popular or famous. Popularity for websites refers to the presence of your website URL over several avenues such as Search engines, social bookmarking sites, social media networks, directories and even on live RSS feeds. If you are ranked or if your URL or the link to your web page is on the first page of the Search engines’ SERP then your site is already considered as famous or popular, couple this with the fact that your URL is present on the other social networking media and thus creating a back link to your website makes your website even more popular and gives the possibility of ranking your website even higher for the search engines.

These are the ideal scenarios when you intend to work on your websites’ popularity which is the main aim of SEO or Search engine optimisation. Other than SEO of course the are other ways on how to promote your website one of which is the promotion of your website through social media networks. This is done by becoming a member on the social media network of your choice and then join the community forums and participate, make sure that you have a respectable reputation and not be considered as a spammer, this is done by answering forum answers accordingly and off-topic which is considered to be a spam which is a huge mistake to commit in SEO.

Second is to submit your website URL to directories, although directories don’t give as much contribution to your SERP submitting it otherwise will still augment your SEO campaign and most of all your websites’ popularity. The third would be the most common but expensive way of making your website popular and that is by advertising. Advertising your website will definitely give you a wider web presence, the most popular advertising media is the Google adwords which makes your website known throughout the web via advertisement.

These methods are just some SEO strategies that you can do in order to increase your websites’ popularity, you can employ any method you want but make sure the techniques that you employ are those so-called white hat techniques only otherwise you will be called a spammer and run the risk of your website being banned.

The success of Bing in the recent weeks has come without any criticisms. As of the latest, the Microsoft powered search engine has climb inch by inch as it now closes in to the search engine rankings’ long time second placer Yahoo!. But unfortunately, some of Bing’s critics are pessimistic on the fact that the Operating System giant company will surpass the current number one in terms of internet users’ share Google. This plus a new blow to Bings’ reputation and that is the accusation by the multiple-airline search engine Kayak that Bing copied its’ websites’ look and feel and integrated it with Bing’s new travel search engine. Microsoft had even boasted that it’s new travel search is one of the new innovations integrated by Microsoft to revolutionise its search engine.

When Bing launched it’s travel search engine, those who tried the website had commented that the look and feel of Bing’s travel search is uncomfortably like Kayak. Kayak executives in their letter to Microsoft said that the Operating System Giant should stop copying their website. In an answer Microsofts’ Whitney Burk denies allegations that Bing’s travel page is same as that of Kayak’s and further stating that the development of Bing’s travel search is based on Farecast.com which Microsoft acquired in 2008. Burke further stated that they are already in the process of discussing the matters with Kayak. Copyright law offers some protection from copying the look and feel of a website but such is not easy to prove.

The process of website design is a complex but rewarding process. Complex because of the fact that there are a lot of scripting languages, images editing and hosting knowledge that a website designer must integrate together. For example a website designer must know or have knowledge on the lingua franca of the web and that is the Hypertext Markup Language, in addition, he or she must also have knowledge in the use of the other scripting languages like JavaScript for the client-side programming and PHP or ASP for the server-side programming. In addition to all of these the website designer must also know how to edit images using photoshop or any other image editing software this is for the purposes of enhancing the aesthetic value of a website design. Because of the fact that there are a lot of skills involved in website design most companies are trying to outsource this process and hire the services of professional website developers and website designers, but because of the global economic crisis the impact is so great that many companies are force to start a website that is done in-house. Let us take both options in perspective and see which of the two ways of making a website design is better, in-house? Or outsource?

First, if a company utilises an in-house method of making the website design it is important to note that such company is of course not specialising on website design and therefore it’s website designer must or will undergo a learning-curve process. This can be a disadvantage if and when the development of the website is time critical but if it is otherwise then the learning process could be an advantage because it will enhance your employee’s knowledge and thus enabling the worker to perform modifications and enhancements on the website in the future.

For an outsourced website design on the other hand, the website designers are all professionals and they make a living out of website designing therefore you will be able to cut down on time and on errors that may be committed during the process of website design because also of that fact that they know the in’s and outs of website design. If your website design needs is time critical then outsourcing is the choice for you but you have to remember the fact that in outsourcing web design you have to be prepared to pay a hefty price.

Armed with the goal to make the web a lot faster than usual, Google has developed a new website that is made for all the web developers out there. The web nowadays has no standard speed because of the existence of websites that were coded from both the old Hypertext Markup Language Version and the newer Web 2.0 standard. Not to mention that more and more website designers are actually diverse in their use of the different scripting language. This with the addition of the fact that Search engine optimisation should also be considered and that the design of the website should also conform to the SEO strategy being employed, it thus created an area where the new technology clashes with the old technology. This clash therefore has created differences on how fast a website is being loaded. The merger of the old and new technology in the web created the slow down of the web and it is because of this reason that Google launched a website that aims to speed up website performance over the web.

Google studied the different factors that affected the speed of the web such as the scripting languages like HTML and JavaScript, in addition to the emergence of different tools that aides the web in increasing its performance, these along with the integration of web technologies for mobile broadband systems.
The Google page speed has incorporated the Page speed feature which is Google’s own version of the Firefox/Firebug add-on. It also integrated AOL’s Page test which is used to analyse a web page’s performance. Finally Yahoo’s Yslow was also integrated which is Yahoo’s version of a firefox add-on which analyses web page performance and gives suggestions on how to increase or optimise the web pages’ performance.
